9x9 variant. No, not actually a 9x9 variant, an 8x8 variant. Rooks are dabbabas + pawns, bishops are alfils + pawns, knights are xiangqi horses + pawns, queens move as queens and capture as pawns. kings are the same as regular chess kings. checkmate the enemy king or get your king to where the enemy's king and queen starts to win.

Created by @autocorr All the rules of Chess apply except that the King's normal move is replace by that of a Grasshopper and that stalemate's are a loss for the stalemated player. In order to move or capture, the grasshopper king (shown as an inverted king) must jump over a piece and land on the square immediately beyond that piece. The king may jump orthogonally or diagonally.Note that because of the asymmetrical King movement it is possible for the Kings to give check and even checkmate to one another.

Created by @autocorr In this variant four pieces in the starting position are replaced with Tetrarchs. Tetrarchs flip between the move-set of a standard King or Queen when moved. All the rules of Chess apply except that: (1) there is no castling, (2) stalemate is a loss for the stalemated player, (3) a player wins if one of their Pawns reaches the final rank ("Pawn-mate"), and (4) a player loses if no Tetrarchs remain on the King side. Checks do not apply to the Tetrarchs.

Shaolin King

Created by @autocorr All the rules of standard Chess apply except that (1) the King is replaced with the Shaolin Master, described below, (2) the game is won if a Pawn reaches the final rank ("Pawn-mate"), and (3) stalemate is a loss for the stalemated player. Unlike the standard Chess King, the Shaolin Master flips between two alternate forms when moved. The Shaolin Master starts in the first form that moves and captures as Chess Queen. The second form moves and captures as the Quetzal in Chak, i.e., a Janggi Cannon that can move both orthogonally and diagonally. Castling is performed by moving the Shaolin Master onto the Rook if normal castling conditions are met in either the standard setup or 960.

Standard chess with two Chinese chess (Xiangqi)-style cannons per side. Cannons move like rooks when not capturing and cannot jump over pieces. To capture, a cannon must jump over exactly one intervening piece (the screen), of either color, and capture an enemy piece beyond it on the same rank or file. Cannons start on a2/h2 and a7/h7; the original rook pawns start on a3/h3 and a6/h6. Pawns may promote to a cannon. All other rules follow standard chess.
